Cortland County is located in the heart of Central New York between Syracuse, Binghamton, and Ithaca, and is the gateway to the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. Situated on a plain formed by the convergence of seven valleys, Cortland has long been known as the “Crown City.” Its elevation of approximately 1,130 feet above sea level makes it the uppermost city to crown the state.
Interstate 81, which runs from the Canadian border south to Virginia, has several ramp connections in Cortland County, and there is nearby access to I-90, I-88, and NYS Routes 17 and 11. Cortland is also served by 3 regional airports: Hancock International in Syracuse 35 miles to the North; Broome County Airport in Binghamton 35 miles to the South, and Tompkins County Regional Airport in Ithaca, a short 15 miles to the West.
This area enjoys four full seasons with temperatures averaging around 30 degrees in the winter and 78 degrees in the summer.
